Spotlight Article: Nick Cannon Pro-life Rapper!
I haven't done a spotlight article in a while, I know. I have had much on my plate, and at one point went to reclusion ( depression/anxiety driven). That being said, I ran into this today, as the past few days and as late as yesterday I pondered doing another spotlight, and thought about possible candidates. The Lord Provides.
Nick Cannon is 24 years old. Born october 8 ,1980 in San Diego Ca. Raised virtually by his grandparents and diagnosed with A.D.D. He started his career, when his grandfather gave him some instruments. Thru as he says "Trial and error" he recorded his first song on his Boom-box at home. He formed his first band "Da Bomb Squad", with his best friend. At 16 he headed for hollywood as a comedian. He had a cameo appearance in the movie "Men In Black-2".
He fell under the guidance of Will Smith, who seen a young Will Smith in Nick.
He has a host of credits to his name including the voice of "Louis the Mouse" in the Movie "Garfield".
He worked in hollywood as an actor, comedian, muscian and hosted some shows for Mtv and Nickledeon. He was one of the stars of the movie "DRUMLINE".
Nick just released a new video based on his real life mothers decision of to abort or not.
After years of rap music degrading women, depicting violence, and praising death, finally something Refreshing.
A couple of yrs ago the black-eyed peas had a song called"Where is the Love?" I remember thinking we need more songs like this.
Rap music wont go away, so all you people out there can forget that. Rap music however is slowly evolving, This is a good thing.
It has made it's way into some churches as well- The modern pumped up churches, like KC Price's church, utilize modern music. He (Kc Price) allows his son to host certain days geared towards the youth, complete with R&B and rap, Gospel of course. Some people think that is a sin, and unless we are singing "Bringing in the Sheathes" , we are not praising God. Lets face it, it may be a gimmick to get kids back to GOD, but it works.
I couldn't watch the video, ( I may need to come back with a different browser..!) But I did listen to the song online

*I found a working link at www.Ncannon.com 3rd column scroll to the bottom.*
The video shows a young woman (Played by Tatyana Ali- who played Ashley on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) entering a health clinic, bent on abortion. The video is interspersed with scenes of Dr.s, surgery, and protest. It is tastefully done, no violence.
In the video Nick appears as the unborn adult child pleading,
At one point the mother after seeing her child on the ultrasound gets up and runs, bolts from the hospital/clinic in her gown runs into the Sunlight and is met by children outside bearing t-shirts that say "Let Me Live" as they sing the Background chorus.
He goes on in the song Talking to his mother,
At the end he appears hugging his "Real Mom".
I cried even harder at the video then I did at the song.
You can read all the lyrics here.
When he starts the song he mentions his mother is 17 and it is the late 70's, about the same time I had my first child. I was almost 17 when she was born. She is close to Nick Cannon in age. I think this is why I reacted this way..(*sniff*)
The best gift a child can give their mother is thanks for allowing them to live, Nick Definitely does that.
This is something that every young girl needs to see and hear, esp. if faced with an unplanned pregnancy.
While reading the posts at his message board, I came across a very interesting post by a young woman who is 26, has one child already and is pregnant with another. Accordingly the father doesnt appear to want this child, and she feels she had all the reasons in the world to abort. While visiting relatives someone turned on t.v. and Nicks song, "I want to Live", came on. She heard her own child saying those words. She is Determined to have this Baby now.
Nick is a success story for all time, and an inspiration for everyone. For those who feel sorry for themselves who turn to crime because of their circumsatances and situations Nick just proved them Wrong.
THANK YOU NICK CANNON!
