Brain Damaged Man Making Miracle Recovery
In 1995 Donald Herbert a firefighter was injured when a roof collapsed upon him in the line of duty. He went without air for several minutes. He was comatose for 2 1/2 months. He has been brain damaged for the last 10 years.
Saturday He spoke.
Described as blind, non-communicative, and having no memory, he has been taking therapy at a Nursing home for the past 7 years.
Suddenly he made a request.
Nurses called his wife and family. He recognized most and even addressed them by name. His sons who are almost all adults now told him he was gone 10 years. Donald thought it was only about 3 months.

Dr. Rose Lynn Sherr of New York University Medical Center said whenpatients
recover from brain injuries, they usually do so within two or threeyears. "It's
almost unheard of after 10 years," she said, "but sometimes thingsdo happen and
people suddenly improve and we don't understand why."
