Parents' Right to Know Act Reintroduced
Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo., are the chief sponsors of the Senate and House versions of the Parents' Right to Know Act. It would mandate that parents be notified five business days before clinics that receive federal funding under Title X of the Public Health Act may hand out contraceptives or prescription devices to minors.
"As a practicing family physician, and as a member of Congress, I have seen firsthand the painful consequences associated with our federal policy that allows children to make potentially life-changing reproduction decisions without their parents' knowledge," said Coburn, who has delivered 500 babies while serving in Congress.
"It is outrageous that, in the United States, children need a permission slip from their parents before the school nurse can give them an aspirin, while, at the same time, children can obtain contraceptives at public health clinics without even notifying their parents.
"This bill will correct this irrational policy that undermines the vital relationship between parents and their children."
Wendy Wright, senior policy director at Concerned Women for America, agreed the legislation is badly needed. She cited as proof the case of 16-year-old Melissa Anspach, whose parents, in January 2004, found her sprawled in pain on her bedroom floor in the middle of the night, with severe stomach pains, vomiting, a rash and a swollen face.
Earlier in the day, unbeknownst to her parents, Melissa had received the "morning-after pill" from the Philadelphia Health Care Center No. 10, a clinic that receives Title X funding.
"If Melissa Anspach's parents had been notified of the clinic's intent to dispense the morning-after pill to their daughter, they would have had the chance to protect her from her traumatic experience,"
Please take a moment to contact your congressman and two U.S. senators and urge them to cosponsor the Parents' Right to Know Act. For contact information, including an easy-to-use e-mail form, visit the CitizenLink Action Center and type your ZIP code into the space provided.
Gay Activists Twist Fruit Fly Study
by Aaron Atwood, assistant editor
A recent genetic study of fruit flies, published June 3 in
the journal Cell, is being hijacked by pro-homosexual
journalists to suggest the existence of a "gay gene" in
humans -- even though the study itself concludes no such
thing.
Researchers Barry J. Dickson, Ph.D., and Ebru Demir,
Ph.D., of the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the
Austrian Academy of Sciences, spliced female fruit-fly
genes and made them look like male genes. The females with
the spliced gene then exhibited male sexual behavior.
The study does not claim this is evidence of a gay gene.
The study does not claim that the results say anything
substantive about human homosexuality. However, many in
the media misconnected the dots anyway....
"The media is anthropomorphizing the fruit fly and
ignoring that human beings are much more complex," he
noted. "While interesting, the fruit fly study doesn't
tell anything about humans....
So why are gay activists so keen on twisting science to
prove a genetic cause for homosexuality? Their No. 1 goal
is to demonize those who change their orientation.
"Sadly, in America, the current politically correct
climate says that we can 'Be who we want to be' -- so long
as it isn't ex-gay," said Kermit Rainman, gender issues
analyst for Focus on the Family. "Strong evidence exists
that sexual orientation is, in fact, quite fluid. This
isn't just a 'right-wing' Christian thing -- even in the
secular arena we see examples of men and women who have
decided to change their sexual orientation."
Film on Ex-Gays Offers Truth to Schools
by Steve Jordahl, correspondent
A new film spotlighting the truth that gays can change
their sexual orientation is being offered to public
schools nationwide as a way of countering the one-sided
message students currently receive about homosexuality.
The message of "Sexual Orientation: Is Change Possible?"
is that no one has to live the gay lifestyle. Producer
Warren Throckmorton, a professor at Grove City College in
Pennsylvania, presents the topic from a scientific -- not
religious -- point of view.
"If schools look at this film and decide not to use it,"
he said, "it will only be because they're biased against
the ex-gay perspective."
Pacific Justice Institute attorney Brad Dacus said school
districts and teachers can legally show the film in the
classroom...

American Medical Association Targets Catholic and Pro-Life Pharmacists for Extinction
The US American Medical Association is backing a proposal that would force pharmacists to dispense abortifacients like the morning-after emergency abortion and birth control pill or refer to another pharmacist to have the prescriptions filled.
A resolution passed Monday by the AMA’s House of Delegates states that pharmacists who oppose abortifacients on moral grounds should provide an “immediate referral to an appropriate alternative dispensing pharmacy without interference,” according to a Chicago Tribune report.
“A pharmacist by virtue of properly understood conscience cannot be licitly compelled to cooperate in such a fashion with what he knows will result in a chemical abortion and, hence, a dead baby,” the PFLI statement emphasizes. “Such activity is called material cooperation. Further, it is not an inconvenience to refuse to refer such a client since the pharmacist is doing the woman and her preborn child a favor in terms of physical and spiritual health.”
“Material cooperation with such an evil can never be licit even if it may be lawful, as it is in today's society,” the statement from the pharmacist’s group continues. “In fact, pharmacists aware of the evil nature of such a scenario would have a duty as a pharmacist and a person not to cooperate in such an evil even under pain of serious adverse ramifications.”

Scottish Schools Seek to Force Sex-Ed on Young Students, Parents to Be Barred from Opt-Out
GLASGOW, June 21, 2005 (CWNews.com/LifeSiteNews.com) - Scottish parents will lose the right to withdraw their children from sex education classes under plans being considered by Glasgow school officials.
Glasgow city council is planning to take away parental choice in what it sees as an attempt to tackle teenage pregnancy rates in the city, which are among the highest in Europe.
The move has been condemned as "arrogant" and "outrageous" by the Catholic Church in Scotland and by parents' groups. The Church maintains that the right to determine when children receive information about sexuality and what kind of information to impart rests solely with the parents. ...
But Eileen McCloy, who runs a parents' campaign group withdrew her 10-year-old son from sex education classes last year because she considered some of the material too explicit, said: "They shouldn't be allowed to take my right as a parent away from me. I think it's very patronizing."
She added, "A mother knows best what stage her child is at and what is appropriate. I don't want to have a say in what they are taught in English or math, but in this most sensitive of areas, I certainly do."

Pro-Family Groups Applaud Homosexual 'Public Sex' Park Arrests
AgapePress) - The leader of a Michigan pro-family group is commending a county sheriff for protecting children and families from being exposed to homosexual activity in a local park. Meanwhile, the group is keeping residents informed about areas in the state that homosexual activist websites are advertising as places where men can go to engage in public sex.
Eight homosexual men were arrested recently during a sex sting at Richfield County Park in Michigan. Among those arrested were a public school teacher and an assistant principal......
The AFA of Michigan and a group of Flint pastors are praising Genesee County's Sheriff Robert Pickell for protecting children and public health by making sure Richfield County Park does not continue to be used by homosexuals as a meeting place for sex. Glenn, who is the president of AFA-Michigan, says families have a right to visit a county park without being exposed to public sodomy.
Glenn observes an alarming trend in reports of such criminally lewd behavior. "I went back and looked over the records of the incidents of this kind of thing that I have in my files," he says, "and it seems in almost every case, there are public school employees who are involved when there is an arrest made in a public park for men soliciting homosexual activity."
Two similar instances occurred in southeast Michigan, and another happened in Pittsburgh in the last several years, the AFA-Michigan president notes -- and in each case, he says, "public school employees were involved.".....

Silencing the Truth: Homosexual Activist Group Targets Kids in School
AgapePress - Most people would immediately recognize the significance of common abbreviations, like FBI, IRS or CIA. But there is another abbreviation with which parents might want to become familiar, because more than likely the organization it represents will be coming soon to a public school near them.
That abbreviation is GLSEN (pronounced "glisten"). It is the acronym for Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. Begun a decade ago by homosexual activist Kevin Jennings, a former Massachusetts history teacher, the group has relentlessly pushed the homosexual agenda in the public school system.
One of GLSEN's major annual campaigns is the "Day of Silence," held this year on April 13. On this day, the organization's website said that homosexual and sympathetic, heterosexual students "take a vow of silence to bring attention to the bias and harassment experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) students and their allies." Instead of talking out loud, students merely hand out cards that explain what they are doing and why.
Dr. Warren Throckmorton, associate professor of psychology at Grove City College in Pennsylvania notes that the Day of Silence guidebook specifically highlights the political side of the event. It says: "The Day of Silence enables participants to show, in a highly visible way, everyone they encounter, that they support LGBT rights."
"This is political activism, pure and simple,"....
In reality, it is an agenda that will allow no rebuttal to its "gay is OK" message. People who do object often discover that they are the ones silenced....later that same week, four students were sent home from school for wearing T-shirts that said, "Adam and Eve, Not Adam and Steve".....
In 2004 Kentucky School board was sued by the ACLU to have A GSA and required teachers and students to attend.
Training for students includes a video that states that if one student speaks out against homosexuality to another student -- who happens to be homosexual -- that is considered harassment. The offending student would then be punished.
Parents were informed that they were not allowed to opt their own children out of the instruction, and the entire policy has led some of them to file their own lawsuit against the school district, alleging that their children are being subjected to pro-homosexual indoctrination.....
According to the Education Reporter, hundreds of students defied the Boyd County tolerance training requirement, either by not showing up on the day the video was to be shown or by refusing to watch it.
The article said the ACLU was threatening to seek a court order to force the students to attend.

MO Pro-Lifers Hail Circuit Court Ruling Against Planned Parenthood
A circuit judge in Missouri has ruled that Planned Parenthood, the world's largest abortion provider, must pay back family planning grant money it illegally obtained from the state.
Although some observers are already questioning whether the ruling will stand a test in the State Supreme Court, in the meantime the judge has ordered two Planned Parenthood branches in Missouri to pay back more than $668,000 in state funding. The decision upholds a prohibition on state money going to affiliates of abortion providers.....
