Mom Sues After Bible Reading Barred at Her Child's School
Donna Busch went to her sons school to take part in "Me Week". Her son Wesley was the weeks featured student. As such he is allowed to read from his favorite book. His favorite book however , is the Bible. His mom prepared to reach aloud a passaage from Psalm 118, when told by the teacher, it was not allowed, citing the so-called church and state separation clause.
Mrs. Busch was then given the option of reading from a book about witches, halloween and witchcraft.
To add insult to injury, a week later 6 year old Wesley came home from school and told his mom "that it was bad to read the Bible."
His mom asked why he said this and he replied, "My Teacher told me so!"
To pour salt in the wound the school allows the dreidel game, menorahs, and celebration of Chanukah.
She has contacted The Rutherford Institute, which has since filed a lawsuit against the school, alleging that the mother and son's free-speech and equal-protection rights were violated.
