FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New Statewide Organization of Pro-Life College Students Formed

Lansing, MIAugust 10, 2005- Students for Life clubs from across the state recently gathered at the Michigan Students for Life Conference to form Students for Life of Michigan, the first statewide organization for pro-life college students in Michigan.

Students for Life of Michigan launched a new website this week, www.SFLMichigan.org. The website features pro-life internship and job opportunities, resources for pregnant and post-abortive women, contact information for Students for Life clubs across the state, and upcoming events.

Students for Life of Michigan is only the second statewide organization for pro-life college students in the country.

The Michigan Students for Life Conference brought in fifty students from ten schools across the state. Featured speakers included Representative Jack Hoogendyk and Reverend Keith Butler. Right to Life of Michigan and the Leadership Institute helped to sponsor the event, training students to lead their Students for Life clubs more effectively. Now Students for Life of Michigan represents thirteen Students for Life clubs across the state, and their student officers are currently working to form new groups on college campuses this fall.

"One in five women who have abortions are college students. Students for Life of Michigan is a necessary organization in order to show women on campus that abortion is a tragic choice,” says Katie Wilcox, President of Students for Life of Michigan.

Students for Life of Michigan has big plans for the upcoming school year. Students for Life clubs across the state are working with Students for Life of Michigan to turn out students for the March for Life in Washington, DC this January. Another statewide conference will be held in March. Students for Life of Michigan plans on fundraising throughout the year to fund more events, speakers, and materials for Students for Life clubs throughout Michigan.
